COLLECTIONS SPECIALIST

Division/Department: Field
Supervisor: Billing Center Manager

Purpose: To be responsible for collecting past due accounts and processing denials as specified in the Collections Manual.

Qualifications:
High School Graduate (Diploma) or equivalent.
2-3 years experience in A/R or collections.
Excellent computer skills

Required Knowledge, Skills, Training, & Abilities:

  1. Successful completion of all scheduled New Employee Orientation Programs.
  2. Successful completion of all training requirements.
  3. Skill to read, write, and perform both mathematics calculations and the English language effectively.
  4. Ability to work independently, be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills.
  5. Ability to communicate independently and verbally with personable and effective writing and speaking skills.
  6. Ability to work in a normal office environment utilizing a computer approximately 75% of the time.
  7. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Primary Functions:

  • Coordinates with branch to obtain documentation as needed to resolve suspended/denied claims.
  • May also review FOS billing edit lists for assigned payers.
  • Make changes to bills to assure accurate claims are generated.
  • Identifies system related errors and communicates change requests as needed.
  • Performs follow-up calls with assigned payer types to assure claims are received and being processed.
  • Reviews denials and corrects errors as needed.
  • Assures corrected claims are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Identifies problem accounts and seeks assistance on resolving problems.
  • Participates in efforts to reduce/eliminate denials.
  • Has ability to work A/R for several payer types.
  • History of achieving bad debt and cash collection goals
